What does summer mean to me? Besides the usuals, like mixers, formals, clambakes, trips to the cape… summer means reading under an umbrella with a glass of vin, not bothered. The book below was recommended to me by a BBTP follower (yay!) and is a great pick to add to your summer reading list.
the book: Writers & Lovers by Lily King
The SECOND we saw that Queen Elin Hilderbrand gave a GLOWING review we just knew it was going to be good. It takes place in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the 90’s and revolves around a writer, Casey, who is trying to finish her novel whilst juggling affairs with two men. The writing is beautiful, with memorable descriptions like :
“It was strong, whatever was between us, thick, like the wet air and the smell of every green thing ready to bloom. Maybe it was just spring. Maybe that’s all it was. We took our lunch baskets and ate ham sandwiches by the pond near our cabins.”
Anything involving Cambridge, the 90’s and descriptions of ham sandwiches and I’m sold.
the bite: Rosemary Nut Mix
To go along with Writers & Lovers we wanted to share this gorgeous rosemary nut mix. In the book, I imagine Casey sitting in her small apartment, that’s actually a potting shed, and having something simple but rich, like these mixed nuts. Throw these together this weekend and enjoy them with a glass of icy white wine – as summer is approaching and WE DESERVE IT.
