The 24-Hour Read

I am a fairly quick reader. I mean, I have a blog that is literally dedicated to recommending books on the reg, so it is essentially my job to read at least 1-2 books per week. Some books take more time than others, like the Maybe You Should Talk to Someone‘s of the world. Others, like the fun and light romance novel, A Taste of Sage, are about a three-day endeavor. THEN there are the rare 24-hour reads. The books that make me stay up well past my bed time (which TBH, is like, 9:30pm) to finish reading.

the book: Don’t Look For Me by Wendy Walker

The last time I finished a book in a day was when I read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Don’t Look For Me by Wendy Walker is the same caliber of suspense… grabbing the reader’s attention on the first page, and not letting you go until the very end.

I can’t say too much about this book with out spoiling anything (bc we all know I am terrible with that) but essentially, one night a woman, Molly, goes missing after coming back from her son’s football game in upstate Connecticut. What I LOVE about this book, is that you are getting Molly’s perspective every-other chapter… so it’s not like she went missing and then we don’t know what the F happened to her until the very end. What is even cooler is that in the chapters where we aren’t following Molly, we are with her daughter Nicole, who is searching for her in the VERY SAME TOWN.

I highly recommend Don’t Look For Me if you love books that play out like movies, and if you aren’t easily scared by creepy children and dolls. Happy October, and Happy Reading!

the bite: Easiest Apple Muffins

In the book, there is a moment where Molly makes homemade Apple Muffins.

We wanted to share a recipe for Apple Muffins that is as simple as it gets… the basic sugar, flour, butter, and of course – apples! I am convinced that anyone can make these muffins without a trip to the grocery store, which makes me guess that they are very similar to the ones Molly makes in the book 😉

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 TBS milk
  • 1 1/2 TSP baking powder
  • 1 cup chopped Apple of choice
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a muffin tin with liners
  • In a bowl using an electric mixer, cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla
  • Add the eggs, milk, flour, baking powder and spices; mix until well combined
  • Fold in about 3/4 of the chopped apples, and begin filling each muffin tin; you can take the leftover apples and top each muffin
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes and enjoy!
